  1. I'm doing some work for a client and we've decided to move to DiscountASP.NET for hosting. I'm curious to know the options for pointing the domain. My client uses Network Solutions for DNS and email. Because of that, we've been updating that DNS to only point the web side to an external IP for my server. From what I can gather, getting that experience would require an additional $5/mo. Is that right?

What might some of our other options be for doing this?

  2. No, you dont need to as long as you are just using the primary domain name. Sign up for an account, then use the web related records in the dns manager section of your control panel to populate your DNS server.

  3. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. We're using Network Solutions to manage the DNS for this existing domain, not pointing to the DiscountASP nameservers to manage the DNS records. What we want to do is point the web address to the DiscountASP server, while leaving the email records intact.

  4. Hi Chris,
You have a lot of flexibility with that sort of thing on DASP servers.
I've got two clients who are stuck with NS for a very evil reason and they are forced into using NS, so they have to rely on flexibility like DASP offers.
    --------
Note: I'm not willing to start a public war with NS but what happened is connected to me.
I signed those businesses up with hosts who used NS for domains, years ago.
Now the only way NS lets them change is through me.
NS wants a copy of my Drivers license to allow me to do that.
I've told NS and these businesses I'm not willing to offer that.
Just one example of a NS Catch 22
    --------

I'm not sure how you need to handle this but I'm fairly certain you can work something out here.
One of those previous businesses I mentioned continues to pay NS for the DNS service but everything now points to the DiscountASP.NET servers, for the web site and Email.

I'm sorry it can be this ugly but to be honest DASP does make it less ugly. ;-)
    All the best,
    Mark

To get a unique IP, yes, one way to do it is through the Unlimited Subdomain add-on, which is $5/mo.

You can do that with the unique IP.

Alternately, you could point the nameservers for the domain here, and add the NetSol MX records in the DNS manager. Six of one, half dozen of the other. If you are used to the NetSol DNS management there isn't any point in changing.
