List server Workaround

Hi Guys,
Discount ASP have not activated the List Server part of SmarterMail.
While using an Alias is OK for a discussion list it is useless for an announcement list as the users just accidently spam each other with Reply All.

Has anyone come up with a solution?
Can we get Discount ASP to turn it on?

I'm afraid not. We decided not to offer that feature when we moved over to SmarterMail three years ago.

 

It's an essential feature of any club site.
Why is it not offered?

 

Well I think the reasoning is a listserv is a listserv and email is email. Different services, different purposes and we were (are) not interested in hosting mailing lists. There is too much potential for abuse there, and our outgoing mail limits would probably interfere with any legitimate mailing list use.

Our stance has always been to suggest a third party mailing service for people who have large email lists.

I understand the way you want to use it is probably pretty low impact, but you would be the minority. It would be problematic for us, to put it mildly. And you'll notice that a lot of hosts who do offer SmarterMail will change an additional fee to use the mailing list functionality.
