image file update

when i replace an image file with a file of the same name in my web app in visual studio 2010, and upload the site, the image that shows on the web page is still the old one - how can i delete the original file from the site, and get the new one uploaded?

In VS if you are using FTP you can select the file on the right side and then hit your Delete key. VS will remove the remote file unless it is locked.
