I didn't know where to post this so I put it here. Can I configure Outlook as my default email program? If so what is:
<ul> Server type (pop3) Incoming mail server (POP3) Outgoing mail server (SMTP)[/list]
Thanks.

been there.... tried this....
It Establishes a network connection and finds the SMTP server and hangs on "Send test e-mail message"
I have an exchange server and two other pop servers mapped to my Outlook account and am currently behind a firewall. Could any of this be blocking it? Thanks.

In order to send through our SMTP server, you must POP from it first. I am suspecting that's causing the problem.
If you have a local exchange server, you can set the SMTP server to your local exchange server and just update the POP server entry.
Let us know if this works.

Dear Bruce,
Thanks! I think it is being blocked by the firewall. I am unable to do a test message from Outlook, but can receive messages sent with Outlook or Yahoo mail. If anyone else has this problem just ask them to ignore the test message and try sending one some other way. Thanks again.

I have a similar problem. I can receive emails but I cannot send them. I understand that I must pop first. But how do I get outlook to do that?
Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the error code
Unable to connect to Server (Account: 'tdebenning@planetcog.com';SMTP Server: 'mail.planetcog.com', Error Number: 0x800ccc0e).
This code does not make sense to me because I can get mail from the account with these settings. However, it looks to me that it is trying to send the message before it tries to POP the server.
Thanks for you help

If you set the POP & SMTP to mail.yourdomain.com, it should POP before it SMTP.

Hmm... that's error indicates that Outlook can't even contact the server and it's not related to POP before SMTP. You would get a different error message if the SMTP server rejects you. This could be caused by a lot of things.
I suggest that you create a support ticket for this matter.

Has this issue been resolved? I am new to this system and unable to send mail out of outlook for what appears the same symptoms. i can receive OK, but not send test message or actual messages.
Task - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Some ISPs (like MSN & AT&T) block SMTP connection to outside mail server.
Consult w/ your ISP and make sure they allow SMTP connection.

If you can't send, try using your ISP's SMTP server name instead of the one supplied by discountasp.
The POP stays the same, only the SMTP parameter changes in your e-mail program. Your ISP's mail server will then deliver the message.
Hope this helps.

I had the same problem because I just switched ISPs. I went to my ISPs website and they had the SMTP server listed that I can use. So that might be your problem too.
