SMS from .NET?

How do I send an SMS message from my ASP.NET app?

I realise I can use a gateway to do this for me but I wonder If I can "be the gateway" and do it myself. There are no free local Gateways in New Zealand so I'm screwed on that count.

I think you'll have to go through a gateway, but i am not 100% sure.
