Portal Email from DNN 3.x

OK.. I have setup my portal to use:
Webmaster@mydomain.com
With the right userid and password- I can send/get webmail with this account.

When I use the newsletter module to send a message from my portal-- nothing happens...
DNN sez message sent, but it doesn't go anywhere... no errors.... just doesn't do anything.

Any ideas?

Yes.
Should I set userid and password to anonymous?
Is there anyway I can check the logs?

It says it sends it but the email never arrives anywhere.
