Bruce - why not word?

    Bruce,
    how come you do not have microsoft word installed on server? or indeed any office components. is it price?

    owc does not seem to solve many problems that office would so is there a problem with word/office on server? what is the thinking ?

    We do not install Office software like Word, Excel as they would take up unnecessary resources on the webserver and can degrade performance of serving websites.

    reasons

    1) Office is a desktop client and is not intended for server installation

    2) there is a licensing issue. We are bound by the Service Provider Licensing Agreement from MSFT which only covers server software. It is not legal for us to install Office on the server.
