Migrating two websites from another Host... should I go with DiscountASP.net?

  1. Currently I'm experiencing a lot of down-time problems with my current website host at HostMySite.com. It seems my ASP.NET 2.0 / SQL2K5 site runs VERY SLOW more often than fast and I get a LOT of timeouts and down-times where the website won't load. I randomly hit it and very often the site just won't load or it takes 5-10 seconds to load. I'm very frustrated with the performance. To their credit the support has been active in trying to resolve the issues, but the performance is unacceptable. I have multiple sites hosted there and planned on adding many more in the near future, but my recent experiences have lead me to look elsewhere.

So, that brings me to DiscountASP.NET. People here seem to like the service and say good things about it, which I'm impressed with. My one major concern is with the "ticket" system for support. I am worried the response time would be lax and some situations are often difficult to explain via email. Anyway, is DiscountASP.net a hosting company worth transfering my existing sites over to and adding all my future sites to? How has the ticket support system been for people?

Also, I have no clue how I would even go about transferring over my ASP.NET 2.0 / SQL2K5 site over to DiscountASP if I do indeed go with them. How do I transfer over all my email accounts and my database? Is this a difficult process? If so, how much help would I expect to get from DiscountASP to make it happen?

Any input would be MUCH appreciated as it will really sway my decision. Thanks!

I think our helpdesk response time is really quick, but I'll leave that for customers to comment on. ;)

Transferring a database is not very difficult, but email accounts would have to be recreated on our system manually. It only takes a few seconds to set up a POP or forwarding account however, so how difficult that process would be depends on how many email accounts you use.

Support - or these forums - can help you out with any move issues that you have, but I wouldn't anticipate many problems. We also have a pretty extensive Knowledge base at kb.discountasp.net. Answers to a lot of questions are in there.

It's always a good idea to set up the account at the new host and get it up and running to your satisfaction while the site is still active at the previous host. That way there is no interruption when you change the name servers for your domain and start sending traffic to the new host.

That process is a little more complicated if your database is storing a lot of user-input, of course, as you can't really have the site running in two places in that case. But it's still possible to do with a minimal amount of downtime.

  3. Anyone out there have an opinion? Surely someone must! Thanks.

  4. I've happily migrated two dynamic data driven sites to DASP from Interland.
Have two more to migrate if I can convince those customers, both of which don't have any IT understanding.

From my experience this far hosting with DASP is like working with friends you can trust.
When anything seems wrong DASP has been Johnny-on-the-spot. [IMG]
