how should i configure the permissions of folders under root?
i don't think leaving it as it is is an option, but not sure what exactly to do... any suggestions?

the default permission should work for most people.
I can't advise you what to change because I have no idea what you want to do.

Having anonymous write is generally safe unless your application has vulnerability that allows hacker to upload script.
If your application do not write to to any files or database, you can change anonyous user to "read"
