Does the Control Panel API support the backup to a ZIP file? What changes do I need to make (other than requesting a backup to a ZIP extension)?
Thanks.

No it doesn't. We haven't decided yet if and when we will expose this option. But your vote for this feature will surely count.

Count me as another vote for "Yes." I have 6+ sites also so allow my "Yes" vote to count 6 times.

Please implement the zip feature in the backup of SQL. I would love only having to download a fraction of the bits rather than the entire uncompressed backup!

Also would you please allow us to name a backup file rather than the self generated name? I haven't checked the forums for this topic but it would be a nice feature especially for me.

Thanks!

Thank you for your suggestion. We will consider supporting this.

Note that allowing zipping of the content w/ the API is MUCH MUCH more than most of you can imagine. The new provisioning code actually make use of Windows WorkFlow Foundation that allow async tasks. It will be fairly difficult to implement it in the API.

Almost anything of value to customers is fairly difficult to implement and I work with WorkFlow so I know the ups and downs of what you are dealing with.

With that said - I would still like to see this functionality for the purpose of reducing download traffic only. Right now I am downloading backups and zipping them to archive servers and then deleting the uncompressed backup so if you implement this, it would only benifit me by letting me download less data.Just FYI.

Thanks for the reply!
