GoDaddy will be adding .ME soon as a Domain Extension.

I'm neutral on this one but they will more than likely have a hit:

Just for the record, hosting my domains with GoDaddy for my DASP accounts has always worked out perfectly.
Salute,
Mark

Just $174.99/yr ** (Five years minimum registration is required.)

Yow! Almost $900 to get in? No thanks.

The cc TLDs are usually popular when they open up, then interest dies out. I would expect this to be the same.

I can't get over thatpremium price. It'sway out of line.

Wow...Either they added that recently or I totally missed it. http://community.discountasp.net/emoticons/smhair.gif

I'm in full agreement that it is outrageous.

Good point. That $1.99 hosting plan doesn't pay any bills. ;)

They will also take your money regardless of what .ME domain you are registering.

Example: I was able to claim GE.ME, IBM.ME, Give.me, Love.me, etc.

(I canceled the transaction before completion.)

DoGaddy's evidently will assign domains to the appropriate copyright holders. If a domain is in question, I think they will auction it.

lol.. ge.me, ibm.me... if you register these, you probably end up in the Frontpage of CNET.

Interesting, the price has gone down (maybe because "sunrise" pre-registration period is over?), and now it's $49.99/year with a 2 year minimum.

It's now pre-registration "land rush" period, which - as is always the case with these things - is lame. If multiple people apply for the same domain, GoDaddy auctions it off between all the different parties who requested it. Of course every desirable name will have multiple applicants, so every desirable name will go to auction.
