Can DASPhelp with this one. I have email forwarding set up with the other domain registrar and also have domain pointer with this domain.

Do I need MX records set up at DASP? Can this be done?

Hi,

I have got hosting a adomainexample.com with you. I also have a domain pointer for adomainexample.co.uk and the nameservers for adomainexample.co.uk pointing to DASP's nameservers.

The adomainexample.co.uk has an email forwarding service.

Before I took the domain pointer and changed ns the email forwarding worked ok.

I think now that the mxlookup will be looking at DASP's nameservers for adomainexample.co.uk, I think?!

Therefore I think I need to put an MX record at DASP for my other providers MX record.

Hope this helps

Tom

Ok.. if you updated the DNS to point to our server, it will read off our DNS and it won't have any MX record setup by default.

You can use the DNS manager to set the MX record for your domain pointer.

Thanks. That worked for the adomainexample.co.uk

I now have added two more pointers for adomainexample.net and adomainexample.eu

These however have the full complement of setup A records and also have an MX record.

This raises a few questions;

Why do these have an MX record? Where doesthe email go? How do I read the email?

Thanks,

Tom

Mail addressed to the domain pointers will be returned to the sender as undeliverable - it will bounce.

However...that will change in a week or two. More on that soon.

Ok. Thanks. Keep us posted.

I've created a support ticket for the MX records.

As a point of interest I didn't get undeliverables I got "Reason: Remote host said: 554 Maximum hop count exceeded. Possible loop."

Thanks for all your help.

We have launched a new feature that allows you to have limited email function w/ domain pointer.
