Windows Phone 8.1 Email w/ SSL

  1. I moved our company domain over to DiscountASP yesterday :)
With a bit of work I got the SSL configuration working on my Outlook PC client:
    Ref: https://support.discountasp.net/kb/a1322/smartermail-ssl-email-settings.aspx?KBSearchID=563428

    Incoming Mail Server (POP3): smXX.internetmailserver.net
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smXX.internetmailserver.net
Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): UNCHECKED

    Select More Settings button.
    On the Advanced Tab,
Incoming Server Port = 995 for POP3; for IMAP try 993.
This Server requires an encrypted connection (SSL): CHECKED
Outgoing mail server Port: 587. I tried 465 but couldn’t make it work. Seems sketchy.
Use the following type of encrypted connection: AUTO. If this doesn't work, try TLS or SSL in that order.
Click OK to return back to where you can test the connection. This worked for me.

Now I'm trying to replicate this on my Windows 8.1 HTC phone and not having any joy.

    Selecting Advanced Settings:
    Incoming Mail Server (POP3): smXX.internetmailserver.net
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smXX.internetmailserver.net
    Outgoing server requires authentication: CHECKED
Use the same user name and password for sending email: CHECKED
Require SSL for incoming email: CHECKED
Require SSL for outgoing email: CHECKED

I have tried appending the port number to the servers - and that really locks things up bugger good.

Has anyone got this to work?

    With humble thanks, slow-minded Dufus

  2. OK, I have an update:
Painful, but the fix is to delete the account and start over. That cleared everything and it all works fine now on the Windows 8.1 Phone.

I also took the opportunity to update my other DiscountASP-based domain email to SSL. However again - on the PC client the Outgoing Mail Server Port would only work with 587 and not 465. Very odd.

    That's bizzare..

Port 587 is the correct port for sending over SSL.

Open a support ticket if you continue to have issue.
