Just joined DiscountASP.NET, need som help with SQL

Hi,

I have just purchased an account with discount asp.net. I will be using ASP.NET 3.5 and programming in C#.

Now, i need to set up the database somehow. I want to use SQL Server but dont know if i should use 2005 OR 2008?

What steps do i need to take in order to successfully? Whihc version do i activate?

I already have visual Studio 208 installed on my laptop..

Can someone please help..

It has been discussed in some detail here along with links to further external resources. Actually being able to take advantage of the feature improvements in SQL Server 2008 will depend on your application, your DBML and how you intend to use the platform. That said, if you're starting a green field dev project then it makes no sense at all to opt for 2005.

my question is, can i use SQL Server 2008 with Visual Studio?

Do i need to download anything or can i manage my database etc through the admin section?

You can use both SQL Server 2008 or 2005 with VS. There are no limitations other than specific platform features. For dev purposes I would recommend SQL Server development edition, however if you have budgetary constraints there are also the free SQL 2008 & 2005 Express editions available for d/l.

I have just purchased the SQL Server 2008 database package from discountasp.net.

Now i already have Visual Studio 2008 installed on my laptop, so do i now need to download SQL Server 2008 and Management Studio?

If so, where can i get this from?

Once i have downloaded and installed do i need to do anything else in order for me to connect to the online databases?
