VS2005 Copy Web site problem

When I try to copy my website from Visual Studio 2005 to DASP.net using the directions in knowlege base article Q10364, it connects, starts to copy files and then stops and sits there forever. If I try to stop the transfer using the stop button or by closing the form, VS2005 crashes. I know it is connecting because I even get a message box about overwriting existing files. I am using Web Site>Copy Web site and highlighting the files in the left window and hitting the right arrow button to transfer to the right windowwhich is my DASP.net account.

Anybody else having this problem or am I just the lucky one. I can FTP the files using my normal FTP software with no problems.

Yes, I have the same problem wit VWD 2005, You just have to leave it to do it's job, even if it looks that upload stopped. Sometimes it takes more than an hour!

 

You might also try unchecking Passive mode. See if that helps the speed.

Same issue here. I was only uploading a single page with some text to temporarily replace the defaultindex.aspx page until I have the rest of the site built. It took way too long to upload a single page with a few lines of text ad when I cliked the stop button VS2005 locked up. The file was transfered though.


When I unchecked "Passive" as suggested aboveand tried it again, it workedvery quickly.

Hi, I realize this is an old question, but I've experienced the same thing. I copied 4 files to the server, and 20 minutes later the transfer was still working. I cancelled out, VS2005 crashed, but my files were actually copied over, as verified by a 1998 version of WS_FTP Pro. Copying the same files with WS_FTP took around 40 seconds.

I will try the unchecking Passive Mode tonight. If that is indeed the solution, perhaps the knowledge base owners can remove that instruction from the article describing how to deploy from VS2005.

Thanks for the reply. I just copied several files from VS2005 with the Passive Mode unchecked, and it took around 5 seconds. Great!

If you haven't done so already, you may want to add some verbiage to the Knowledge Base article about this "feature" concerning routers and passive mode.
