3. The link to the management tool in this thread now points to the beta 3 version, which apparently does not work with IIS 7 beta 2 that is installed on the servers. After consulting with the Discount ASP.NET support people, they suggested I post here to see if anyone has a link to the previous beta 2 version of IIS 7 Web Manager.

Alternatively, can anyone get this new version to remotely connect to IIS 7? When attempting to connect I get the following error: 'Could not connect to the specified computer. Details: Unable to connect to the remote server.'

Cheers,
Roger Martin

6. Thanks, but unfortunately I get the same error. I first uninstalled beta 3, then reinstalled the MSI you provided. The connect to site wizard is slightly different, so I know I am running a different version, but I still get the same authentication error after entering the username and password. I am copying and pasting the info directly from https://my.discountasp.net/betahosting.aspx, so I don't think I'm introducing a typo or other user error.

I am getting the beta blues now, since I can't be sure whether the problem is caused by beta 3 remnants screwing up the beta 2 installation. I can try rebooting between uninstallation/installation/post-installation but I am running an online backup program right now that won't be finished for a couple days, so I can't reboot for awhile.

Sigh,
Roger

I believe I had that same problem when I first updated to Beta3 and attempted to revert to Beta2. Once I did that, I was unable to connect to Beta2. I have only tried it once and so I can't really say it is a fact. The Installation apparently leaves something behind that we have not looked into since Beta2 is old and it is "Beta". You might want to try it on a fresh computer with no installations of the Remote Manager. The version I provided is the only Beta2 version I have available, I can't guarantee its the right version since I usually overwrite older version. Iwas assuming that the newer version beta3is compatible with the older version Beta2.

So give it a try on a computer with no installs of this tool and let us know.

8. I installed the manager at http://www.iis6hosting.com/download/mswebmgr_beta2_16452.zip on a WinXP machine that never had the beta 3 version, but unfortunately I still get the same error.

You know, this has been the same error since I first tried connecting, which was before I noticed I had to request access for IIS 7 Beta Web Management through a ticket. Even though you guys responded that remote access had been activated, is it possible this wasn't done, or wasn't done correctly? The error message didn't change. I would like to know if *anyone* can connect to my IIS 7 account.

Please advise. I can submit a new help desk ticket if you can't infer my identity from this thread.

You can submit a ticket to have us double check on activation of IIS 7 beta remote for you. I can't guarantee you the version I have provided is the right one since I've been testing alot with the Beta3. As far as I know, everyone was able to connect before the release of the Beta3. What happen was that IIS.net release the wrong version of beta 3 at the beginning (and no one knew it was incompatible with Beta2). So we all downloaded and over-wrote many of our old Remote clients. Youmay need to see if anyone out there has the original working client. It appears mine isn't the beta2 version afterall. The client is very sensitive to versions. Here's a link to the version 3 issue:

Ourmost current beta hosting of IIS7 on Windows 2008 RC0 will setup Remote Management access automatically. You don't need to contact us to set that up anymore. However, as of the time of this post... IIS.net has not posted a functioning version of the IIS 7 Remote Manager clientto work with the RC0 release of IIS yet. As far as I know its still the Beta3 version of the file on their website(dated 5/30/2007 on their site). You can check forupdates on this link: http://www.iis.net/downloads/default.aspx?tabid=34&i=1456&g=6

12. Hi there,

How do we connect to the beta environment? Do we simply connect to our beta domain and use the username/password we use for FTP? If that's so, then it's giving me error 401, access denied.

I can't find anything about this in the forums or website so any help appreciated.

thanks

13. Make sure you have the correct version of the IIS 7 Manager [Version 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp2_gdr.070304-2240 : Service Pack 2)]

To connect using the IIS7 Manager ,do the following:

->Open the IIS 7 Manager
->Click File and select 'Connect to a Site...' option.
->Enter Server name 'beta-XXXXX.lhweb3.iis7betahosting.net',Site name 'beta-XXXXX.lhweb3.iis7betahosting.net' [click 'Next']
->Enter User name 'beta-XXXXX' and the IIS7 password assigned to you . (See the IIS 7 section in your DASP Control Panel) [click 'Next']
->You will be prompted a server certificate alert',click 'Connect' [click 'Next']
->Your connection name will appear as 'beta-XXXXX.lhweb3.iis7betahosting.net' [click 'Finish'].

14. Is there further guidance about how to manage the beta sites? I downloaded the IIS Manager (now RC1) and I went through the instructions detailed in previous posts. When I try to connect to my site, I get an access denied error.

Thanks,
