This is a difficult question!!! There are pros and cons to either OS. XP - it is far more stable and require less hardware power. - it doesn't have some of the new features of Vista like IIS 7.0 Vista -I don't think vista is stable enough yet.Of all the guys that switched to Vistaat DiscountASP.NET, 90% regrettedthe decision including myself. There are just too many inconsistency. eg. - My Vista box needs to be rebooted every week or so because it will freeze. - Another guy's Vista box's network is crawling and its a pre installed OS from Dell. - Good thing about Vista is that it has a great UI. IIS 7.0 which is far more "interesting" than IIS 6.0. Conclusion If you have a powerful machine (at least 2 G of RAM and a kickass processor) and don't mind resolving strange issues, you can consider Vista. If this is for work and you don't have time to fiddle w/ the non-sense, i would go w/ xp. Bruce DiscountASP.NET www.DiscountASP.NET
Good feedback, really appreciate that bro. So far that has been the feedback I've received for VS 2005/2008. I've been cartooning for years and am thinking of kicking it into overdrive for Silverlight. Might be what I need to boost out of poverty. The system I need to re-install XP Pro on, corrupted, is the one I got from CyberPowerPC. Has been a great performer. Intel D Dual 3.6, SLI, 2GB I can get Vista Home Premium (Academic) for $60.51 Whichhas been makingthe upgraderather tempting. Salute, Mark
I do code for SDK based gameswhere there are known issues with Vista... howeverall of themhave been addressed, it seems. This system was build with SATAII and I added another channel, so... Could actually make it a dual-boot. http://lifehacker.com/software/top/windows-vista-beta--how-to-dualboot-windows-xp-and-windows-vista-179906.php Thanks again bro.
oh... 1 more thing. Do you play game on your box? If so, you may want to stick w/ vista. Bruce DiscountASP.NET www.DiscountASP.NET
