Creating a CNAME when the domain is registered elsewhere

Discussion in 'Domain names / DNS' started by Will1968, Jul 3, 2013.

  1. Hi,

I have my domain registered with 1&1.com

I wanted to set up a CNAME to work with my CDN.

So I set one up with 1&1 and it did not propagate.

So I asked them why and they said that this was because my site was not hosted with 1&1 and that I should create my CNAME with my host.

Is this correct (I was a little surprised) and if so how do I do this?

    Thanks,

    Will

Are you using our nameservers? If you are, you would need to create the CNAME record in the Control Panel DNS Manager: https://my.discountasp.net/dns-manager.aspx

If you are not using our nameservers, the record would need to be added with whoever is providing DNS service for your domain.

Yeah, we caution people that full DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours but it's usually a lot faster than that.
