Error 503 - Service unavailable.

  1. To Whom It May Concern!
Please make clear how DiscountASP is Monitoring Server/Service Availability, for instance: Error 503 - Service unavailable.

    Thanks,
    Alex

The 503 Service Unavailable is caused by your application, not the server. You can submit a support ticket to have us check the Event Logs to see what's happening.

  3. "Please make clear how DiscountASP is Monitoring Server/Service Availability"

The response to the ticket that was created according to the
    "Server unavailable":
"Hello we apologize for the delayed response.
There was an issue with our DNS server (caching issue) that causing domain name cannot be resolved.
We have addressed this issue and it should be resolved now. Let us know if issue persists.
Please let us know if you have any further questions."

    Just now from the twitter:
    "ASP.NET/TFS Hosting ‏@Discountasp
WEB703 is down. Our system administrators are already working on the issue.
    6:09 PM - 19 Sep 12 • Details"

    So my question is:
"Please make clear how DiscountASP is Monitoring Server/Service Availability."

    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,

These are 3 different issues. Usually, the 503 Service Unavailable error is caused by your application. The DNS problem would have affected all our servers, and the WEB703 one today is just isolated to that particular server. It may not even be the server your application is hosted on.

    Regarding your question:

"Please make clear how DiscountASP is Monitoring Server/Service Availability."

We inform our customers of any outages through the Outages and Maintenance forum, and when possible, through Twitter.

  5. Hello,

Actually our web server is on WEB703 and the Outage forum has no indications about the problems today or any other day.

Please advise how we can be more proactive if our customers start complaining by phone, twitter, email etc., but we do not have any clue what are happening on the DASP servers and have to look everywhere for the answers.

    Thanks,
    Alex

Again, for the 503 Service Unavailable error, you would need to open up a support ticket as that's more application related. For the other problems, check our Outages and maintenance forums:

    http://community.discountasp.net/forumdisplay.php?f=34

We usually post within minutes of a problem occurring. You can also follow us on @Discountasp via Twitter.
