How to setup DNS for no mail but http

Discussion in 'Domain names / DNS' started by Scott Baldridge, Jun 7, 2014.

  1. Hello, how do I set up DNS for this scenario:

I have a domain called foo.net which is the primary domain and pulls up fine.

I have another domain I want to point to the foo.net domain for http traffic only called foo.com. So if someone calls foo.com the foo.net pulls up and the .com extension works fine.

We do our mail in the cloud for foo.com. Currently when you call up foo.com you get a webpage unavailable message.

Everything was working fine until we migrated to a new sever. I presume the foo.com dns records did not get migrated.

How do I configure DNS for the above scenario??

  2. Okay, I've made some progress. Now everything works if I use http://www.foo.com but does not work if I use just foo.com. Is there a setting in the discountasp control panel to allow with and without the www?

I don't know your real domain name but I'm assuming you might be using a different DNS service that foo.com is using. If so, you will need to update the www.foo.com to point to the IP number of www.foo.net.

Does foo.com pull up the same site as foo.net ? Did you add foo.com as a domain pointer to the site account?
