SSL on Alternate Site address?

Discussion in 'Hosting Services / Control Panel' started by clayutility, Apr 7, 2009.

  1. Hello all, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I am in the testing phase of a site migration from a dedicated host provider to DiscountASP. My site has some secure log-in sections, so I am using SSL. I have already purchased a new SSL certificate for my DiscountASP site, and I would like to test it to make sure it at least works before I transfer my domain to DASP. My questions are as follows:

    1) Should I be able to test this on the alternate URL <domain>.<server>.discountasp.net, knowing that I should receive an invalid domain error?

    2) Is connecting to the alternate URL with https allowed, or is 443 blocked on that side?

I have installed the certificate, but am unable to connect to my site at all using https. I attempted the connection both before and after I installed the certificate.

Thanks again for your consideration in helping me make sure my site will be fully functional during this transition period.

You cannot connect to the alt URL over HTTPs. You can, however, access your site using the IP address over HTTPS.

That is true, however, there will be a certificate error, which one can choose to bypass
