  1. Hi,

Just wondering if it is possible to have multiple domain going to one account (without redirect / cloaking).

    i.e. I have domain1.com.au and domain1.com

I want both to go to the same website, but without a re-direction i.e. if someone types domain1.com, it stays the same in the address bar.
If someone types domain1.com.au, it styles the same in the address bar.

i.e. I want to add a host header - is there a cost?

  2. Found it - I think - it is the domain pointer tool?

Yes, you need to order a domain pointer.

  4. Update......

Just wanted to point out that if you want to host multiple domains (I would say more than 4) you may want to order the unique IP which will allow you to host as many sites as you want. For instance, once you have the IP, it can be used to point your site to the server you have via the DNS. In your DNS setup, for any domain that you own, you have the option of pointing the "A" record to the IP. This is simply the Internets way of mapping the site name to the IP address. Once this is done, you can setup each site in a separate folder. You can place the site contents in the separate folder for each site in question. I point this out because if you have more than 4 domains, you will pay around $60.00, but the unlimited subdomain IP costs you about $5.00 per month, which comes to around $60.00 per year. I hope this information is useful in resolving your issue.

  5. oliver - on what would i search in the kb for more detail ?

  6. HI, long time first time poster. Is there a KB where we can view additional detail? Thanks for the heads up. I always read that this set up was not possible!

  7. No word or reply on this one yet? Anyone have a link to the KB? I couldnt find it anywhere?

    Cheers!

  8. I apologize for the delayed response. There really is not a KB on this subject, that is why we are discussing the details here. The unlimited subdomain addon will point: *.YourDomainName.com to YourDomainName.com
You can programically redirect any specific subdomain to a subdirectory.
There are no email services for subdomains. If there is anymore help needed with this topic feel free to update with questions. I hope this information helps.

  9. Hi Oliver! welcome to DASP!

The trouble i have with 'new technology' (ie, anything i dont know about) is that i also don't know what questions to ask! So that's the first question: "What are the questions?"

second question: suppose i put up a site "http://themothership.com/". Can I now sell satellite sites such as http://ufo1.themothership.com?

third: if the satellite is possible, does it become http://ufo1.com ?

  10. add another domain to my currently hosting plan

Sorry, but i don't see a clear answer yet.

here is my situation. currently i own a hosting plan with an domain that point to it. now i want to add another domain. what should i do (beside buying another hosting plan)

    Thnx.

  11. You can register additional Domains with any provider, such as http://www.godaddy.com/
Then you can add that Domain name in your Control Panel as a Pointer.

Once you do that any of your Domain pointers can be used for areas of your current site.

  12. Yes, you can. In order for this to work you will have to manage DNS with another provider. For instance, when you purchase a domain name with a provider such as godaddy.com you are provided DNS management services. This service allows you to point the "A" record for your site to the IP you bought with discountASP.net. The unlimited subdomain add on allows you to have your own unique IP and this is what all the satellite sites will use in the configuration of your DNS. One way you can do this, would be to create a wild card to point all subdomain records to the unique IP:

    *.themothership.com "A" 11.11.11.111

Doing this will allow you to create folders/directories in your web viewable directory for satellite sites such as ufo1.themothership.com.

Note: If you do not wish to use external DNS management, your only other option would be to purchase a domain pointer for $15.00 and this will provide DNS for your domain you are pointing to the unique IP. You will need to ensure your domain uses the discountASP.net nameservers for this configuration to work with the domain pointers.

No. This will always be "ufo1.themothership.com". The reason being, it is a sub domain of the primary domain: themothership.com.

I hope this explanation helps to clear things up.

  13. Thx oliver - that's a help
