401 Unauthorized in IIS7

Discussion in 'Windows / IIS' started by BlueSkies, Jan 6, 2012.

  1. I have followed the instructions properly.
In IIS Tools my account owner had rights to IIS Admin.
I downloaded the correct IIS tools.
When I connect to a remote server I put in my Alternative URL without the http://
Then I am given a login prompt. I put in my username from the cp and the password and I get a 401 Unauthorized error in IIS7.

I attached my IIS7 and Control Panel screenshots.

    Did I miss a step?
    Thanks in advance.

  3. It produced the same result thanks for the reply though

  5. The screenshot shows that you are trying to connect to the web server using the Connect to Server option. You will need to choose the Connect to Site option.

  6. I seem to have a similar issue

I have tried several things suggested.

    Connect to Site.

web713.discountasp.net:8172 as site name, my account name as server name (also tried "/" as site name).

    Using my cp user/pwd.

User shows up checked on the permissions for IIS page, just like screenshot of original poster.

    Getting not authorized error.

I'll try creating a new user and giving it permission maybe?

have you created a ticket? its probably easier for us to troubleshoot when we can access your account.

  8. I just submitted a ticket. I tried to submit one this morning, but I had to go away from my computer in the middle and I suspect the session timed out. I submitted, but I don't think it actually made it into the system. This time I got a ticket number.

    Thanks for any help,

  9. Figured it out.

My domain name is too long for the user name, so it is shortened in my alternate URL.

I wasn't sure what to put in the Site Name field since I haven't transferred my domain yet, and tried the shortened version.

Nope, you need to put your full domain foo.com or whatever, even if you haven't transferred your domain yet.

    Ok...got it....

I clicked on connect to site.
    Server name instantbico.web713.discountasp.net
    Site name instantbi.com.
    User name instantbico

and password of course...THEN it lets me in.
