Newbie needs Basics

1.) Where did you register your domain? Make sure you set it up so the nameservers point to DiscountASP (ns1.discountasp.net and ns2.discountasp.net) Here is how to do it if you registered through GoDaddy:

2.) If you are using your site to show clients sample projects, you might consider just making a separate folder for each client. You may have to mark the folder as a web application through the control panel. Then you can just send your clients a link like this:

http://www.mywebdevelopmentcompany.com/JoesDonutShop/

I understand your response on question 2 but question 1, I should have clarified. The domain I was speaking of was the domain assigned to me in the"AccountsInfo" section, when I go to the internet with this link, I get "this page cannot be displayed". Am I misunderstanding this how this is used?

 

If you're referring to the 'Alternative URL' (as it is labeled), it should work fine. You can always navigate to your site with this URL. I think you normally see some temporary page if you haven't done anything with your site yet.

The alternative URL looks something like this:

http://mywebsite.web123.discountasp.net

If you're navigating to your site with your actual domain name, you'll need to set up the name servers as I mentioned before.

 

I am an experienced VB developerwho now needs to move existing projects into the webhosting world.I haveno web development experience but have some VisualBasic Web Developer experience. I have had discount asp.net services for over a year but onlynow am going to begin to use it.
2 questions please:

1) I have a domain name but cant get to it via my internet explorer, I keep getting DNS_Server unavailable, dont know if this is my error in setup or by coincidence servers are down.

2)What should be the process for me to have my different clients login and see their separate projects under development. Do I need to create separate "domains" for this?
