Recommended install for DNN

Just moved my domain to DiscountASP.net

I'm a long time DNN developer on another host. I want to do a fresh install of DNN 5.6.X.
All my files are in place in a subdirectory (/Home) below my root.
I'm about to push the button.

QUESTIONS:Whats the recommended approach to install at discountASP.net
The web app gallery?
or do it your self?

Do I need to edit connection strings in Web.config for web app gallery approach to work?

Do I need to edit folder permissions?

Do i need to edit the password policy in my SQL2008 db?
