Hi, I want to Learn Expression Web 2 with a DATABASE included. What is your advice on a hosting company? I tried http://Mochahost.com but they have no tech support documents beyond basic generic ones. Their Tech Support was not able to provide help to create a DATABASE then import the files. Currently I am testing 2 hosters; http://GoDaddy.com and http://DiscountAsp.net GoDaddy has everything I want to learn for $7.00 per month for a Windows hosting package. DiscountAsp.net wants to charge me $10.00 or more extra per month to add a MsSql Database. They stopped offering the MySql database. Why should someone learning pay $15.00 more per month for the DATABASE that is offered on GoDaddy ? I want to learn the basics of MySql and also MsSql. Which would you select? You can stop by and eat New Orleans Cajun Gumbo for each tip. Thanks ~ Gary~ New Orleans ~ http://melvillehighschool.org
Surely you do need hosting if you're only learning. It's possible to run everything you need - webserver, rdbms and your programs all on your own computer.
Thank you. Why didn't I think of that? Enjoy Your New Orleans Cajun Gumbo. Thanks ~MHS~ New Orleans ~ http://melvillehighschool.info
Well, that's only $13 more per month, not $15, but the answer to your question is; they shouldn't. Not for very basic learning purposes. But if you want to move beyond the very basics (and if you care about quality or innovation) GoDaddy falls short of us in just about every way you can mention. They are a mass host for people whose sole concern is cost. But you will not get low cost and high quality from them, or from most of the sub-$10 hosts out there.
