  1. Hi

Can I connect using my local computer using SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio to my DASP SQL Server 2000 ?

I am in the process of upgrading locally my Application and SQL Server but have NOT made the switch yet at DASP. I would like to do some testing locally before upgrading at DASP.

Yes. You should be able to connect using any SQL client as long as your network allows the necessary ports.

When you say "SQL Client" what does that mean ? Is that another why of saying SQL Management Studio or does Client refer to the Application connection? I am trying to test a SQL Buisiness Intelligent Development package, I have written to download some tables from DASP to my local computer.

    Thanks for your responce

  4. Yes. SQL Client could mean SQL Management Studio 2008, 2005, 2000, or your application.

  5. Thanks

I will have to try it from home to see if my connection will work. Doing it from work could be the problem, they could be blocking my connection. I am doing the "Test Connection" button in the Connection Manager........Not sure where the problem is.

Your network probably block port 1433.

You can connect over the alternative port of 14330 as well.

Check w/ you network admin to see if either of these ports are opened.
