  1. For the life of me I can't really figure out what to do or needs to be done (if anything) about these records.

I have a domain registered through Yahoo! and in the DNS settings the A, CNAME and MX records all point to Yahoo servers. The Name servers, of course, I have pointed to DASP. My domain/site works fine including email.

It appears that MX records should point to the servers that actually receive e-mail for that domain (e.g. DASP servers), but clearly it's not entirely necessary for email to work. Though in my case, if it's being routed through Yahoo first, I certainly want to eliminate that.

Additionally, what if anything should I do with the A record and CNAME record configurations?

It doesn't appear that DASP has very clear instructions on this. All configuration information I've found revolves around specifying the Name Servers only.

    Thanks for any help.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you're looking for clarification on. If you're just wondering about the different DNS record types, there's some good information in the following Wikipedia article:

  3. Thanks for the link. I'm admittedly not used to administering DNS settings because in the past I had always registered my domainsthrough the web host, so they were configured automaticallyfor me.

What I'm asking is whether I'm supposed to have my domain's MX, A and/or CNAME records pointing to DASP server(s)?Currently they are all pointing to some Yahoo servers since that is where my domain was registered through.

From my understanding of the MX record in particular is that the host name(s) specified in thatare responsible for delivering email to any account under my domain. So wouldn't I want to change the configuration of this fromthe Yahoo mail server(s)to DASP mailserver(s) similarly to how I changed my Name Server(s) to ns1.discountasp.net, ns2, ns3...?

This is what I'm looking for clarification on, because the only information I could find about configuring a domain to be hosted with DASP pertained to setting the Name Servers. What am I supposed to do, if anything, to properly configuretheMX, A or CNAME records?

  4. Okay, I think I might understand why my question didn't seem to make sense. Somehow I missed these settings in the DNS manager of the DASP control panel. I had thought that all DNS settings had to be set through my registar's control panel, not my web host.

After further reading it seems that since I have set the nameservers to DASP through my registrar, now all other DNS settings must be configured through DASP.And I see that this is already configured, so, basically, I don't have to do any further configurations at this point.

Yea, thats right. You manage your DNS settings with whatever service your Domain Name Servers are pointing to. So if you pointed to us - ns1.discountasp.net, ns2.discountasp.net, ns3.discountasp.net - then you would manage DNS using our DNS manager and by default we set everything up to use our services. If you want to use an outside email service as an example, then you would need to update your mx records using our DNS Manager.
