  1. We want to host a website with discountasp.net but we host our own DNS.

I added an entry to our DNS tables like the following:
    newsite.domain.com 1.2.3.4

with 1.2.3.4 being the entry in the DNS Manager in Control Panel for the www server for our account.

Our site works using the test address but when I use our DNS address, we get a “Web Page Unavailable”. What did we miss?

You will want to go into your Control Panel and copy the settings from the DNS Manager section. 1.2.3.4 is not the IP address of your site.

    Oops, I misunderstood your comment.

I took a quick look at your account. Everything appears to be working correctly. Are you trying to access your website by IP or did you try refreshing your browser?

  4. I've tried both the IP and the DNS name I assigned to the IP. Both just take me to a "Web Page Unavailable" screen. However, if I user the test address, it works fine.

You won't be able to access your site by IP unless you purchase the SSL/Unlimited Subdomain addon. I'm not sure what's happening with the name servers you're using, but your site is resolving somewhere else. Just ping the domain name.
