  1. does discountasp.net hosting allow for 'outbound requests by httpwebrequest'?

I am in need of a hosting service that will allow me to obtain real-time shipping quotes from the United States Postal Service via their API servers. Some hosting providers block this kind of traffic with their firewalls. Is this the case with discountasp.net??

yes. your app should be able to make port 80 /443 outbound call.

  3. Bruce: Ok, sounds good for the most part. My concern is this:

You say my app 'should' be able. This is really the only thing that I can foresee to be a problem. The application is a third party shopping cart w/ real time shipping rates via API calls to U.S.P.S. servers.

So I have slight concerns because it is a pain to move a site to another provider because of something out of my control (like what I am having to do now). After doing some reading I found this:

    30 Day Money Back Guarantee
Customers Can Test Our ASP.NET Hosting Platform
We back up our claims with a 30 day money back guarantee.

When an account is setup, we assign each account an alternative FTP address for uploading, and an alternative URL for viewing. With this setup, customers can uplaod their site and test it out on our webservers (while their real site is still live elsewhere) - before pointing their domain over to our location.

I will test out your service and hope as a company with an apparent good reputation you stand by your word.

In general, we do not want to guarantee anything that is outside of our control, ie. USPS web service..

I can confirm that we do not have anything that blocks outbound HTTP request from the web server.
