ASP Space and my Forum ?

Discussion in 'Third-party applications' started by Bigmoss, Sep 28, 2009.

  1. Hey guys hopefully someone here can help me out. I just started admining a website and forum. All of our space and hosting are here on ASP.net

We are running a forum with dotNetBB Forum version 2.42EC SP3. We had issues in the past running out of room and the forum crashing. I see there is no more tech support from dotnetBB anymore for the forum software so I want to make sure we are covered.

In order to increase the disk space with ASP our forum is it SQL Database space we need to buy ? Once that is done do you know if I have to allocate that new space within the dotnetBB software or is it automatic once you assign the new space ? A few weeks ago I increased our SQL disk space but I don’t believe I saw it increase within our forum software which currently reads like this. Any advice on what to purchase from you and how to allocate it would be appreciated. As I said I increased our SQL space a few weeks ago and it is now at 700MB from 500 I belive but I cannot figure how to make sure that extra space is assigned to the forum portion of the stuff on ASP. Any advice would be appreciated !!

when you increase SQL diskspace, we basically increase the maximum allowed size. It doesn't automatically increase the data file size immediately until your DB usage is close to the limit.

  4. Thanks for the reply Bruce, so does that mean I dont really have to do anything with in the forum admin section itself ? As long as when I add the additional SQL space and use the Allocation manager in ASP control and assign all of it to that username the forum and site will continue to use it until maxed out then ?

you shouldn't have to do anything other than keeping an eye on the usage to see it the database size increase once you have more content.

  6. Great thnaks for the help, the old admin just increased server space before and never did SQL Space, I just wanted to make sure the SQL is what I needed to increase and how to tie it in

Yeah, I just checked and you have plenty of overhead on your account where general disk space is concerned. You are correct to assume that you will have to be adding SQL server space when necessary for the forum.

The database and the site run on separate servers, so adding disk space to the web server does not affect database size.
