  1. Hello,

I am new here and was wondering if anyone can help me.

I have ASP.Net web site hosted on discountasp.net but we are experiencing some downtime during Discountasp.net's server maintenance. Sometime the downtime is very short but sometime it is one or two hours.

I was wondering what is the best practice for doing a "failove cluster" or functionally similar set up. Do I need to set up a local server and do a one-way sync form Discountasp to local server so I can point to local server with DNS records when Discountasp is down.

Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you guys for the help.

Changing name server records (that isn't really a "failover cluster," of course) during maintenance or even an outage isn't really going to do you much good as those changes take some time to propagate. They will always take longer than maintenance, and almost always take longer than an unplanned outage, so the benefits would not outweigh the costs in terms of working to set it up and making the switchover when you became aware that the site was unresponsive.

Also, a one or two hour downtime is very uncommon.
