  1. I noticed under the features that they support PHP5.....I think I understood that right. But I didn't see the exact words MYSQL. I've seen some wordpress blogs on here, so I figured thatit willwork. I was following a tutorial on wordpress and it said the following:
To run WordPress your host just needs a couple of things:
    • PHP version 4.3 or greater
    • MySQL version 4.0 or greater

So, if someone can help out..I'd appreciate it;)

Also, if Wordpress doesn't work......then is there a blog that will. Its my first time trying to put a blog on a site and I am just trying to figure out how it all works. Thanks:)

We offer php5, but we do not offer mysql. So wordpress won't work on our hosting platform.

  3. I am currently running 2 sites with DiscountASP and both of them are running on a MySQL DB. What Gives?

We discontinued offering mysql back in March 2008. You have mysql from the earlier days.

  5. Isn't offering PHP5 and not offering MySQL a contradiction. That's like offering .NET hosting and not offering M$ SQL for data access. That's unfortunate; looks like I will be looking to move my current customers and my two new customers over to M6.NET hosting.

    kwsim,

Before we discontinued offering MySQL only about 1% of our customers were using it. Deciding to discontinue offering it was more a result of lack of customer demand than issues with MySQL itself. We discontinued perl support for similar reasons. Those who used it in the past can continue to do so, but we do not support it on new accounts. It's a gradual phase out by attrition.

Continuing to support php is not quite the same thing, as you can use php with any number of different databases, including MS SQL. And, as Mark pointed out, Microsoft made a concerted effort to improve php performance in IIS 7, so it remains viable for people who want or need to use it for certain things.

At some point we have to let go of the technologies that are seldom used and that are not part of our focus here. The kinds of hosts who try to be all things to all people invariably fall short in some areas. We would prefer to be strong in the singular area of Windows hosting.

  7. ..I don't see it as such.
Reason? Microsoft put a lot of work into making PHP work with SQL Server 2008 and IIS7.
Have you been watching the news about MySQL? Do some searches, the legal court is heading for a brick wall.
    Salute,
