I have a couple of really stupid questions to ask. Right now my domain is registered with GoDaddy and my site is hosted at discountasp.net. My site is written using IIS 6 and .net 1.1, obviously it's ancient. It was written by a programmer who is long gone. I've decided to completely redo my site using Wordpress. But that requires IIS 7 which is not compatible with .net 1.1. So this is my plan: Get another account with discountasp.net and do the whole website over using Wordpress under IIS 7. Then when it's up and working I'll switch the pointer at GoDaddy to the new site and cancel the old one. Ok to my stupid questions: 1. Does that seem like a reasonable (and simple) plan? 2. At GoDaddy there is a reference to the nameservers ns1.discountasp.net and ns2.discountasp.net. How in the hell is it finding my web address on discountasp.net and how do I change it once I have the new site ready? 3. What is the simplest way for me to look at my new site with a browser during development before I change the reference at GoDaddy? Yeah, I know pretty stupid. Thanks in advance for the help! Donald
Hi Donald, Yes. You need to cancel the old hosting account and then submit a support ticket requesting that you change the primary domain name of the new account. IIS uses host headers to provide additional name resolution. We provide you with an Alternate URL in the Control Panel that you can use to view your site while in development.
