  2. Hello,

I need atool that can synctable structures and data between the production database (on DASP) and the local development machine. I know there are lots out there and I've tried a few but some simply refuse toconnect to the DASP database so I'm looking to the voice of experience for help!

Thanks in advance for any help.

  4. I've nowinstalled a trial of the SQL Compare v5 & Data Compare tools. Any traps for new players that I should be aware of?

I can connect to the local database just fine, but get the dreaded "server not found or access denied" error when I attempt to connect to the DASP SQL2005server (sql2k305.discountasp.net) using the main SQL serverlogin and username. Do I need to know the IP address of the server?

I've looked at the Red-Gate site without success. Any ideas gratefully received.

This error usually means that your network is blocking the necessary port. Try do a simple telnet test

    - open command prompt
    - telnet mssql01.discountasp.net 1433

If you get an error, that means the port is either blocked by your network or ISP.

If that's the case, you will not be able to connect using any SQL client to server outside of your own network.

  6. Hi Bruce,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't get an error with the telnet command - a really, really brief message about connecting (too short for any detail), then a blinking cursor for a minute or so, then back to the command prompt.

    Is this good or bad?

    Cheers
