  1. I have just been migrated to SmarterMail. Are my addresses from the old system lost?

No. When we migrate your domain, we recreate all email accounts and forwards. The only thing thats not recreated is AutoResponder.

  3. I meant the contacts I had stored? I used webmail all the time and kept e-mails and contact information.

Contacts are not migrated. We can export the contact stored on the server to a csv / tsv for you though.

  5. Thiswas a surprise to me, this was not listed anywhere- I just had a client converted over to SmarterMail and they lost their contacts too. I would have liked to let them know that they would be losing their contacts.

What are the instructions for transfering over these contacts to SmarterMail?

The contact formats are very different, so an automated "dumping" from SquirrelMail to SmarterMail could not be done.

If you have a small number of contacts your best bet is to enter them into SmarterMail manually. If you had a lot of contacts in SquirrelMail we can export the list for you, but the file cannot be directly imported into SmarterMail - it requires some tweaking.

The export from SquirrelMail is a pipe delimited RTF file. SmarterMail requires the file to be comma delimited in order to import it. So a simple search and replace can format the file correctly, and you can save as .csv, but you'll only be able to import the email address and names from the SquirrelMail contact list.

To import, click "Contacts >> My Contacts" in the left side menu in SmarterMail, then "Action >> Import Contacts."

So it's do-able, it's just a bit inconvenient. If you need the contact list, drop a line to support and they can have it extracted and sent to you.
