  1. Hi,

DASP imposes a choice between log files and Web Stats [:(]. I need them both.
Since I am used to stats produced by Webalizer, I am looking for a tool facilitating analysis of DASP log files with Webalizer.

I would be grateful for any hint.

    Jacek,

I am not sure I understand you. You can already run your stats report with webablizer once you have the log file.

  3. Bruce,

    Thank you for your answer.

I am afraid that Webalizer doesn't support the MIIS log file format provided by DASP. So I have to write a filter to convert it into Common Log Format (CLF). I have something else more urgent to do now, and ... may be I am lazy a little bit [:)].
Since my first post I found a clear description of CLF, so I am on almost ready to write the filter.

  4. I wrote the filter and I have almost the same stats as before.

The only remaining filter issue is the lack of DNS lookup. Namely,
given a text file with a list of IP addresses, how to create another text file with the list of domains to which those addresses belong ?

    Any hint will be appreciated,

    Jacek

    Jacek,

the log file format is standard w3 extended log. It is a standard format, i am sure webalizer will support it

  6. Bruce,

    1. Webalizer's config file mentiones only three formats : clf, ftp, squid.

    2. My DNS lookup problem originates in the fact that your log file gives always IP addresses of the site visitors. My previous hosting company provided logs with the domain names whenever avalable. It's not a complaint but a regret; those logs were easier to analyse.

  7. I use DASP's already installed aspDNS component to get domain names from IP addresses. See their KB example on this at: kb.discountasp.net/article.aspx?id=10059

Its very simple, just pass it an IP address and it will return the domain name for it using reverse DNS.

  8. Greetings!

We make use of a nifty little Microsoft utility at work to analyze our logfiles. It's pretty versatile, and should be able to help you in converting the logfile to a format that you can use it in.

    Microsoft LogParser 2.0

    Hope this helps,
