  1. Ludicrous. There's a word from the 1980s I have not used in a while. But this service at Discountasp.net is so superior to what I've used before that it qualifies. Yes folks, Discountasp.net's service is so good ("bad" in a good way) it's ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.

It all depends on your frame of reference of course. Mine is based on a guy who was a corporate IT type, who knew his stuff, but was so overworked that getting any kind of a reply was like pulling teeth. Just to get a "Hello World" app in Silverlight working took a month of begging.

Then I switched to Discountasp.net. For a few dollars a month (what is it anyway? The price of a haircut maybe? I don't even bother to look at my bill it's so cheap) I get superior service and though I've had a few difficult questions that stumped me, I get my questions answered in a relatively timely way. The real eye opener--I still remember it--was connecting to an online SQL Server database that a poster "Dimitri" helped solve and it worked 'right out of the box' within minutes. That is so rare in programming--typically it takes several hours if not days sometimes. At that point I knew this place was special. And I don't expect answers within hours (but sometimes I get them anyway) I always get answers within a few days, usually in less than a day. This is doubly amazing since my questions are answered by DASP volunteers (I think most here are volunteers, except the guitar icon guy).

Great service at DASP--no wonder they've won so many awards from programmers like me. Just today in fact I'm setting up email accounts here (to eventually test emailing from within .NET) and the Knowledge Base article is right on point. I've also set up databases (SQL Server 2008) without a hitch. And figured out how to set up HTTPS. Next year I'll convert from Visual Studio 2008 to 2010, and though I bet there will be a few hiccups, I don't see any show stoppers.

Keep up the good work DASP.

Now mind you, I have several sites and one of them is hosted by the 800# gorilla, Earthlink, and right now I'm too lazy to change it to DASP (I should check there's probably a Knowledge Base article on how to do that), but compare to EL, DASP is, especially for programming stuff, light years ahead.

OK off my soapbox now, back to my programming... it's LUDICROUS I tell you, LUDICROUS!

Well thanks PJ, we always appreciate positive feedback, and it doesn't get much more positive than that.

Dmitri, by the way, is a member of our support staff. Any time you see a green username, that's a staff member. Most will be noted as "DiscountASP.NET Staff" under the username as well. Here is a complete list of staff members who show up in the forum.

Glad you are enjoying the service!

  3. PJ...You're gonna get put in the same cage as me soon. :)
