  2. Sorry - not a DNN guy so I cant help but while you are waiting for a reply here, you might want to hit up the DNN forums.

  3. I just managed to install DNN 4.9 last night after a long battle.

I used VWD 2008 Express and opened the website using the local file system option.

Did you try using the basic install (not the auto install) just to get more specific error messages?

  4. I have been trying to install DNN 4.9 on either my local machine at home and at DASP (using my existing SQL Server 2005 instance) without success. My biggest problem is finding a set of installation instructions that can be followed explicitly (in other words, no jargon). That aside, I see a reference to an auto install option. I know some other hosting providers have DNN installers that do everything needed but I don't see anything like this as DASP.

I know some of the reasons for my problem with my home installation (old operating system, etc.), but I don't understand why installing at DASP should be so difficult.

Did you follow the instructions posted on DiscountASP (KB: How to install DNN on DiscountASP.NET hosting servers)? These disagree with the instructions posted at DNN for a local install (Detailed Installation Guide- Download). DNN calls for creating 2 levels of Subdirectories (DotNetNuke_2/Website) whereas DASP calls for 1 level (DotNetNuke). (Part of the problem might have been related to the fact that I was trying to install into an existing site and an existing database instance that already had ASPNet tables in use - but I have had the database restored so I can try from scratch again.)

It would be greatly appreciated if you could describe exactly what steps you went through to complete your install (either on your local machine or DASP or preferably both).

    Thanks.

BTW My local machine is a new installation of Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

  5. OMG, this scares me, looking at the date of the last post with no reply, sure hope there was a little private messaging here. Being an absolute MS Noob and trying to host 2008/3.5 is maybe in the idiot range, figured I might learn better by doing it. I thought I'd read up a little before I joined in with my stupid questions about DNN. I'm going to try and install it this weekend, anything I should know to escape these other guys' problems? I really like the modules offered with DNN forums/galleries/chat, etc. We got YAF up without anything significant but DNN is a much larger monster.

HELP- before I get into a situation we might regret?
