  1. I have a DNN site hosted here on Discount ASP. The site is slow to load, taking 10-12 seconds at times. Once in, the site loads its loads ok, but slow at times. The site is current on version 04.05.05. Is there something I can do to speed up the first page load time?

Here is a link to the site. http://www.dolphinfitnessonline.com

  2. Loads fine from my side.Have you tried loading it from outside your network? You can also perform some network troubleshooting(See:http://kb.discountasp.net/article.aspx?id=10197),just to make sure that your network is not causing the slowness.

Also,at times an application takes time to load ,when it recompiles, which happens every time you make any changes to your site.

And every time there is a 20 minute idle period the application is released from memory and has to be recompiled the next time it is called. So that initial load can be an irritant for a less used site, but once you establish a user base it shouldn't be an issue.

I would be very interested to know the results if anyone tests this. If it helps we would certainly recommend it as an option. We get DNN speed complaints daily, and have very little to offer in the way of help or suggestions.

  6. One thing you can do is put SmarterPing on your home pc and have it ping your keepalive.aspx file on all your dnn sites every ten minutes (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Servers/Server-Tools/SmarterPing.shtml - you also need Microsoft .Net framework on your computer).

DNN is just slow. That is a realization that many in the community do not like to face. There is something called pageblaster (http://www.snapsis.com/PageBlaster.aspx) that some dnn folks like but there are always posts about how it messes up their application in some way or another. I would research the forums at dotnetnuke.com thoroughly before making that plunge.

I am also researching other ISPs and trying to compare the speed of DNN installations there vs. DAP. It is very difficult to do a 'side-by-side' though.

    thanks,

  7. My website is based in the UK and runs fine from US and South Africa, a bit slow on the initial load but after that things speed up. But if a user loads it from Iraq it takes about 5min's to load on every post back but if he loads pages from South Africa it is almost instant. But this can also be a connection problem as the user's connection restarts occasionally. I was wondering what result you found by comparing DNN vs DAP
