  1. I have a question about the DNS Manager. I haven't had a lot of experience with the DNS stuff, and didn't want to mess up my business email by mucking around in this tool without proper knowledge.

What I would like to do is keep my domain and website hosted here at discountasp.net and have my email hosted somewhere else (GoDaddy.com)with the rest of my domains. At GoDaddy, they have a FAQ about changing the DNS entries to do just this, but becausee it does not look exactly like what your tool looks like, I wanted to make sure i knew what I was doing before attempting the change. Could someone tell me the steps to complete the following on the DiscountASP.net DNS tool? The 'preference=20' throws me off and should I actually do a CNAME change like theysay or use A record somehow instead? Much appreciated!

Can I use your email account if I host my domain with another registrar?

Yes, but you will have to change your Zone records (MX and CName) with your registrar. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Log in to your account at your domain registrar?s Web site.

Step 2: Locate the Zone record set up for your domain.

NOTE: Not all registrars will allow you to modify these records. If your registrar will not allow you to modify your Zone records contact their customer support for help.

Step 3: Replace the existing records with the information below:

    yourdomain.com ? MX preference = 0, mail exchanger = smtp.secureserver.net
    yourdomain.com ? MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = mailstore1.secureserver.net

If you would like to use your email in a POP3 client, change your CNAME records to the following:

    mail - map to pop.secureserver.net
    email - map to email.secureserver.net<!--StartFragment -->

Have u already updated the DNS to point to ns1.discountasp.net & ns2?

    You actually have 2 options

    1) If you have not updated the DNS, you can just point www & @ to our server and keep the DNS hosted at godaddy.

    2) If you have updated the DNS to point to us,

    a) Remove the current MX.
    b) Add the MX specified by godaddy

    eg.
    click new in MX section
Leave the first textbox (Domain Name) blank
Put smtp.secureserver.net in 2nd textbox (Destination)
Put 0 in the 3rd Textbox (Distance)
    Click Add

    repeat for backup MX

    3) Remove mail.yourdomain.com A record

    4) Remove a.mx.yourdomain.com A record

    5) Add the CNames

  3. excellent help... I appreciate it!

I have already updated the DNS entries to point here... I've been using your hosting service for about a year to host everything for this domain. I decided that I wanted to consolidate all of my email over there with my other domains because I have a great deal there set up for email.

Thanks for all of the help... I'm going to try this tonight...
