  1. when I do the old nslookup on my site obury.com i get

    216.177.89.7

I've added another domain name (alexandercollier.co.uk) to resolve to this but itdon't work (change its A type and CNAME accordingly)!

If I put it in a web browser I get 'Web Page Unavailable' from DiscountASP (administrator is spelt wrong).

Can anybody help on this one?

    Ta very much

  2. You are trying to access what is called a 'shared ip'. You cannot access the IP address directly because it is shared with other domain names.

If you want to add an additional domain name to this ip address, you will need to use ourdomain pointer addon service.

If you want to have full access to the ip address you will need to order our 'unique ip' addon.

You should be able to add either of these to your account in your control panel.

This is because 216.177.89.7 is a shared IP address, the web server is only configured to resolve to your domain name.

If you want to point additional domain to your site, you can either

    1) Upgrade your account to Unique IP ($5 per month)

    OR

    2) Purchase a domain pointer for $15 setup fee.

Thanks again. So here's the next easy one:

What's the difference between the two: pointer or unique IP.

If my plan to take over the world is going to happen I'd like a unique IP address but if you could give me the low down first I'd be very grateful

  5. If you want to be able to pull up your site with just the ip address, or want the have the ability to point as many dns a records to your ip as you want, you'll need the unique ip addon.

If you don't want to pay the monthly fee for the unique ip, you can just get a domain pointer addon, which will make your other domain work with that ip address. This service has a one time setup fee, but no monthly.
