email filtering methods?

  1. Hi there~

Are there any successful methods for filtering incoming email? I'm using Outlook, but it seems to be limited to shuffling msgs into different folders. I would like to block incoming messages at the server level, which I guess is discountasp.

I wouldn't mind at this point creating a list and then having the server kick back msgs from anyone not on the list.
Is that kind of thing doable?

    Thanks for any advice!

  2. Currently it is not. I would first recommend you remove your domain wildcard (if one exists). This was a big source of spam for my email account.

I also use http://spamarrest.com (which is a challenge/response) spam blocker. it block almost 100% of my spam.

We are currently testing spam blocking solutions to help as well.

  3. Did I read that correctly? DiscountASP.NET is currently looking into adding some type of server-based spam filtering? That's good to hear, but I would like to know how that's coming along before I buy some other service - such as SpamArrest - as suggested.

I am currently using SpamElimination.com's service - but it seems like those folks have completely abandoned the site. There has been no updates to their service for years now... and I'm getting a LOT of "real" emails dumped into the "Blocked" folder. SpamElimination is suppose to perform a challenge-reponse, but I do not think this is working any longer. I've noticed emails from people I was expected email from sitting in the "Pending" folder - yet they report to me that they never received a verification email. Nice. So, I've been looking and looking for a replacement solution - and thus far I have not found a service I'm willing to plop down that kind of money for - SpamArrest is worth considering.

There are dozens and dozens of products you can download and install on your local PC - but I personally favor the server-based services that offer white-list, black-list and challenge-response services - and obviously virus filtering - on their server, before it ever makes it to my PC. I had tried software such as Qurb (now owned by CA), and found that while it did work, that "junk" was being downloaded to my computer, and then filtered out. Man, sometimes it would take several minutes to download all that crap from the mail server - only for it to be filtered out or worse - a ton of challenge-response emails generated and sent back out!

There's got to be a better way - and I'd love to hear about what you are researching and/or have found.

  4. The method I like best is the Filters feature in Eudora.

I've found it to be the best E-Mail client for many years and use the filters feature in it to fetch, sort or delete mail.

With this I can drop my wife's mail into her own folder, delete known spam on fetch and filter my own mail with labels.

Very cool and easy to use. http://www.eudora.com/
