  1. Hi All,

I have been having ongoing problems with Outook 2007 (had same problem with OL2003 also) when it comes to Send/Receive. The Send portion of the action is very fast with no delays. However, the synchronization of the IMAP folders often hangs, some times I need to force a close of Outlook and try again.
    My configuration is as follows:
    Cable modem with static IP.
Wireless router on cable modem with DHCP on the LAN side.
Windows Vista Ultimate with Outlook 2007.

I should also note that my girlfriend's notebook with XP Pro and OL 2003 exhibits that same behavior.

Is this slow/hanging behavior normal and we'll just have to get used to it?

I have ran pings on the imap server and I'm gettting averages of ~16 milli-seconds on a regular basis, leading me to believe that at least the network speeds are good. Also, I have consistent 5-6 Mbps broadband throughput.

Can anyone offer any advice on this? This problem is driving me nuts.

    Thanks,
    Alan

i would try bypass the router and connect your computer directly to the Internet to see if you get improvements. I am saying you should keep this setup but this way, you can eliminate the NATing related issue.

  3. Thanks Bruce, I'll give that a try.

  4. Bruce,

I tried a direct connection with the cable modem with no improvement. The darn SW seems to hang quite-a-bit on synchronizing folders.

I tried another idea...I deleted my Outlook IMAP account and created onebased onPOP3. Holy smokes...this performs a Send/Receive in a very short period of time, seems less than a second.

    Why the big difference???

P.S. a while back I thought that the IMAP account in Outlook was bad so I deleted it and created a new one with no improvement.
    Thanks,
    Alan

  6. I've heard the same thing from alot of people who use Outlook with IMAP. It seems to be that Outlook just plain sucks at handling that protocol.
