  1. Dear All,

It is really strange experience in using WS_FTP with slow uploading. I think it is the problem of ws_ftp, actually I am using WS_FTP Pro Trial edition. Then I try to switch to Cuteftp pro and also the same response time. Finally I start using the Visual Studio 2005 website copying function. It finished the transfer in 7 minutes for all 14mb files. Again, I have double checked the connection setting in both FTP client and all set to Passive mode and even set them to single session upload. I am trying to use other computer in other network to upload files with these clients and test the upload speed agian.
Is there any clue on this situation?

  2. I'm in Johnson City TN and have had connection problems FTP'ing here for the past two days, I contacted DASP Support and they aren't aware of any issues on their end but had me send them a Trace Route from my system so they can look into it.

There may be a bottle neck in the Texas area from what I've been able to tell so far.

This has only been going on for the past 2 days, so far it DOES NOT look like a problem on the DASP end.

    Salute,

  3. Thank you so much for telling me this. I have also send my tracert report to the DASP support. They said it looks fine. I am locate in San Francisco and I start experiencing the slow response on Jan-23.

I found it is strange that Texas network problem could affect my connection as I have asked DASP and was told their servers located in Los Angeles,CA.

As you may not be aware of upload speed is different then download speed. You may get great download speed but poor upload speed even if your network connection is goog. There should be a setting where you can see your upload speed with WS_FTP or CuteFTP. I can't say for sure why VS 2005 is uploading faster then your ftp clients. Its hard to say without knowing how you have configured your ftp client and VS 2005. Additionally using passive mode is a much slower connection then Active Port mode. If you do not have a firewall or anti virus installed either on your local machine or local area network, make sure you have connecting via Active Port mode. If you do have these things installed on your network or machine then passive mode is the only way you can connect, unless of course you configured your firewall to allow port 20 and 21 to go through without be disrupted.

  5. ...Keep in mind there's a known problem with some routersbotching VS file transfers in Passive mode.
