FTP will not work

My ftp accountisn't working properly. The domain URL has resolved but when I try to use the ftp address assigned, ftp.mydomain.com, I gain access but do not see any files. It will work if I use the Alternative URL but only through explorer. VS 2005 worked with Alt ftp url before domain resolved now if I try it in VS 2005, neither will work. I've also tried CuteFTP with no success with either ftp url. Also, why can't I delete files/folder when FTPed with explorer but can delete them when FTPed with VS 2005? I am not running frontpage extensions.

No error. When going through explorer,the ftp folderopens but the files/folders are not visible. In VS2005 same thing happens. When I try to connect to a subdirectory in VS2005,message says "The web site does not exist. Would you like to create it." Any ideas?
