Gimme feedback, please: New page for DASP Videos

Discussion in 'Suggestions and Feedback' started by wisemx, Jul 11, 2008.

  1. Salutations,
This is the new page for the DiscountASP.NET Video casts:
    http://iis7test.com/webcasts/

( Yes I'm using the IIS7 Test server for these, but that almost makes sense. [IMG] )

    Feedback please...
    1. Is the format on that page clean enough? Any more info needed?
    2. How important is it that you can only watch the video? Do you want an option to Download?
    3. If you want to download the videos, what formats? Zune/iPod?
    4. Is the current Windows Media format acceptable? Would you prefer Silverlight videos?

There isn't a default styling on the video pages yet but this page does have a tentative styling:

Is that styling/format acceptable for the individual Video pages?

    Yourfeedback is very much appreciated.

  2. Note: <STRIKE>One thing I just noticed on both of those pages is my css is not working properly in Firefox. (Fixed it.)
<STRIKE>I'll get that fixed tonight, have only been testing in IE8 so far. [IMG]

  3. Never mind...

Got zero feedback on this so I'm just re-creating the main Webcasts page from scratch.
This time I'll stick primarily to CSS.
Have been testing the updated CSS tools in VS2008 and Expression Web v2.
Both are very nice but treat ASP.NET pages very differently.

  4. Just saw these.Great videos and nice voice-over!

In addition to being able to download the videos,a Silverlight video selection interfacewould be cool. It will definitely make it flashier. I don't know if you've used the free Silverlight streaming service from Microsoft, but you get 10GB free space and you get the advantage of real streaming instead of downloading. http://silverlight.live.com

  5. Thanks.
Just chatted with Takeshi about the same thing.
Yes I have a Live Silverlight streaming account.
Also have the full version of Expression Studio 2 and the latest encoder updates, including the Live streaming update.

In the next few days I hope to have a Silverlight streaming example up, it will be similar to the IIS teams videos.

Right now I'm working on the new template for the individual pages, none of them are formatted presently.

  6. Update...
    • Each of the Video pages has been updated.
    • The main Webcasts page lists each of them, numerically.
    • From each of the Video pages clicking on the banner will take you back to the Webcasts main page.
    • Any page that needs additional links will have them listed under the video.

Mark, those are really great tutorials. Nicely produced too. My hat's off to you!

  8. Thanks...Takeshi has suggested some improvements and I am currently working on those.
Once the newest video is on the site, IIS7 ASP.NET Error pages, I'll clean up a few of the existing ones.

  9. Update:
I added a Silverlight Steaming option for Video #6, "IIS7 Manager ASP.NET Error pages".

Video #7 is the same as Video #6, except it is streaming from Silverlight instead of being served from the IIS7 server.

Also added a closing credits feature, with music.

As always, any feedback will be appreciated.
