  1. Hi - although I am in the throes of trying to get a satisfactory answer from GoDaddy (their customer service really is terrible - they clearly do not read emails and their SPAM filters keep rejecting emails sent using Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007) I thought I should warn forum users of a problem with their certificates in the UK so others don't suffer as I have.

Internet Explorercontains a list of "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" installed by default. If your certificate authority is not in this list, users will get the dreaded red address bar and a security warning saying there is a problem with the site's security certificate. Do I need emphasise the impact this can have on visitors to your e-commerce site? [IMG]

You can see which trusted root certification authorities are installed in IE by going to Tools / Internet Options / Content / Certificates

It seems that 25-30% of IE 7.0 installations in the UK do not include GoDaddy as a trusted certification authority. I can only assume this depends on where users in the UK downloaded their copies of IE 7 from?My experience has been limited to the UK so I don't know how widespread this problem is.

This experience has been disastrous for me - I post this here in the hope that others don't suffer as I have.

  2. We've also seen problems with their intermediate certificates if the root certificate is also installed, resulting ina broken certificate chain with Mozilla browsers. So I don't recommend using them as a certificate authority.
