  2. We've been using it at work - I'll check and see what our s.a. says.

Thanks. We are evaluating the possibility to install that on our servers.

  4. Any word as to when WSE will be available on the server?
I've experienced no problems using WSE 2.0 on my local IIS server.

  5. I have been usin WSE2.0 mostly for checking documentation. It works fine.

  6. Thanks a lot. Is there a WSE4.0 in the works?

  7. Well WSE 3.0 is really a bridge to WCF (Windows Communication Foundation aka Indigo) that will come out with Vista - so it is really what you should be using for the next year. It has 5 (I believe) built-in, "turnkey" security scenarios that should be easy to implement - one of those will work for 90+% of users. It also claims to that Developers will see a 30% performance increase switching from WSE 2.0 to 3.0 ...not to mention far less code to implement one of the turnkey (best-practices built-in) scenarios. All of your security funtions will more or less roll into (have a consistent programming model and API with) WCF when it comes out and WCF will extend that withadditional features.

Not sure what needs to be installed/implemented at DiscountASP for this but it was rolled out along with Visual Studio 2005 to go hand-in-hand, so it would be great if DiscountASP would support this on their servers.

yeah.. i'll forward this to our prod dev people. we are aware of this new version but we see very little demand for WSE. Naturally, this push the priority back :<

  9. Thanks Bruce,

    For your production dev team...

    Well considering that:
-This is 'part of' the Visual Studio 2005 / .NET 2.0rollout,
-you have embracedASP.NET 2.0 AND SQL Server2005, and
-a huge number of your developers will beusing visual studio 2005 / web studio 2005
-this is THE Web Services security modelthat Microsoft wants everyone to use
-this will be used for at least another year
-developers can easily convert it to WCF a year later (so no lost programming time)
-and it's has an easy programming model (finally easy to add security to web services with turn-key solutions)

I think it would be good to get it implemented to keep you guys on top of the 2005 technologies.

Also, my personal belief is that THE reason you DIDN'T see too much demand was that the pre-3.0 WSE technologies were hard to program against so people just gave up. Everyone wants to put security in their web services and now it's relatively easy ... as long as you support it of course... [IMG]

Hey! and the marketing guys can put another banner on your home page... "Now supporting WSE 3.0!!" ...it'll make you guys look cutting edge. ...stomp on that competition!

  10. Are you a resident of Redmond? Kidding of course.

  11. heh, no.

just a little north... (Vancouver, Canada). ...no affilliation with Microsoft... .NET just allows small companies to compete with giants. It levels the playing field - so I'm a big fan of .NET and its potential.

  13. Hi Bruce,

What is the status of WSE 3.0 installation on discountasp.net? We will be using these extentions for all future services.

    TIA,

We have tested WSE 3.0 and were going to install it couple weeks ago. However, we are running into some problem with the installer and we are working on getting it up on the server.
