Arggh! I've been with DiscountASP for several years. I originally registered my domain and had hosting with DiscountASP. I've moved my hosting to rackspace and asked them DiscountASP to cancel my hosting, but keep my DNS/domain registration alive. What did they do? Last night, they cancelled my entire account. DNS is gone. No access to technical support other than the external email. Without DNS pointing to my website, my website is basically dead. All my email is bouncing back to senders. Does anyone have a telephone number for support at DiscountASP?
You should contact us at [email protected] and We'll help you solve your issue. From the sounds of things it seems that you were using our DNS server for your domain name. You can contact our billing department [email protected] and ask them to change the name servers to your current hosting provider's name server. That way your domain name will start working as soon as possible. Since the account is closed you won't be able to open ticket. But you can still email in to contact us.
That is correct. When I was in the process of cancelling I was informed that the domain and DNS would stay in place. I can't make any changes to the DNS and tech support has gotten back to me and opened up a ticket in the BILLING department. This is immensely frustrating. We are going on well over 72 hours now. I'm doing everything I can to get a hold of a real person, but there is no DiscountASP registered to do business in the state of California. The phone number on the site drops directly to voice mail.
I don't doubt that you believed that DNS would continue, but I'm afraid that isn't the case, nor has it ever been. We don't offer a stand-alone DNS service. Your ticket went to the billing department because it isn't a technical support issue. Billing handles domain registration issues for canceled accounts. They should have advised you how to transfer the domain away, and given you the login credentials to make name server changes in the meantime.
